There’s a real chance that Everton move to sign ‘interesting’ £25m player

Everton have already enjoyed a transfer window laden with activity, but this is a squad far from the finished product.

After all, they are quite clearly light on the ground in a few positions, and that is something that Kevin Thelwell will hope to fix before the summer is over.

The bulk of his transfer targets seem to be pretty well-documented, and now one particularly interesting player has been confirmed as on their shortlist.

Everton are interested in Jesper Lindstrom

We at Everton.News spoke exclusively to Graeme Bailey to get the lowdown on Everton’s transfer plans, and couldn’t go over them without mentioning Jesper Lindstrom.

The attacking midfielder, who joined Napoli for £25m just last summer, has failed to hit the heights that he did at Frankfurt in his first year in Italy.

And, seeking to take a small risk, Thelwell is clearly backing Sean Dyche to be the catalyst that revitalises his career, should they pry the 24-year-old for a cut-price fee.

Bailey claimed: ‘He’s an interesting one. Good player. Again, I believe he’s on the list, but not just Everton. There’s quite a few looking at him.

‘I think they’re waiting to see what Antonio Conte says on him, but I think he will be available. That would be another loan, he’d be very expensive to do permanently.

‘But yeah, good player. He’s on their list. I think there’s a bit more interest in there but there’s a lot that like him in England. I think there’s a chance there.’

It has been noted elsewhere that Napoli actually want to sell Lindstrom to Everton, which is also good news.

How good really is Jesper Lindstrom?

It is a testament to Thelwell’s recruitment that he is seeking to attain distressed assets for a smaller fee in the hope that they can reignite their careers at Goodison Park.

Iliman Ndiaye is a similar player to Lindstrom in that during the 2022/23 season, they both thrived, with the Senegal international recording 25 goal contributions as Sheffield United got promoted to the Premier League.

However, upon then leaving for another country, the following campaign was not so profitable.

And so, Everton have swooped.

The Danish forward also enjoyed a solid 2022/23 term, with seven goals and two assists, yet was inexplicably handed just two Serie A starts for Napoli most recently.

So, to truly understand how good Lindstrom is, his final year in the Bundesliga is the best for analysis.

There, playing off the right, he would manage 1.7 shots per game and maintained a 16% conversion rate, with the latter figure better than Abdoulaye Doucuore, Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil’s from last season.

This goalscoring prowess and general attacking threat would offer something different to what the Toffees already have, which is currently just hard-working players with solid delivery.

The hope is that, if Thelwell is intent on this particular deal, he can negotiate a more amicable price to keep Everton within PSR constraints.
