Thierno Barry debate takes a new twist as Everton fans all agree on one thing after Fulham

For the past few weeks, Everton fans have bemoaned the performances of Thierno Barry. But, against Fulham, something well and truly changed.

The French striker arrived at Everton this summer in a deal worth a reported £27m, and it’s safe to say he’s not even begun to repay that transfer fee just yet.

Barry’s statistics this season have been awful, to put it plainly. He’s still yet to score for the Toffees and has come in for plenty of criticism.

However, David Moyes was pleased with Barry’s performance against Fulham at the weekend, and it sounds like the fans are warming to the forward now, too.

Everton fans are ready to give Thierno Barry time

As the club shared a player cam for Thierno Barry in the wake of the win over Fulham, Everton fans took to Twitter/X to share some love for the 23-year-old.

One fan wrote: “Yes… His job is to score goals, and he currently isn’t, but the rest of his game is there, I believe one goal and the floodgates open. Personally, I say we bring in an experienced striker in January, and loan or sell Beto, let Thierno learn from the experienced player.”

Another said: “Was superb yesterday. Needs a run at it. Positive signs.” A third added: “The lad will be a success, patience is needed around.”

It’s been a great weekend for the player, with Everton fans giving Barry a standing ovation on Saturday at the full-time whistle. Clearly, they’ve seen enough to suggest there is a good striker in there waiting to be unleashed.

One supporter replied, “The young man has played well just need that first goal and I believe it’s a domino effect!”

However, while praising Barry, one fan did state a caveat that will be important to his progression at the club, writing: “He had a decent game. Some good touches, some promising hold-up play and he covered a lot of ground. But, if he doesn’t ditch the emotional attitude to any kind of physicality, he’ll never survive in the Premier League.”

Thierno Barry loved reaction from Everton fans

Barry is obviously feeling the love, and he’s let the fans know how much it means to him, too. After the ovation at Hill Dickinson on Saturday, he took to Instagram to share a touching message to the supporters.

He wrote: “There are things that mean more than goals. With my difficult start to the season without scoring, receiving an ovation from you today really warmed my heart and showed me that I’m on the right path. Once again, thank you so much.”

That goal does need to come soon, though, otherwise this newfound patience may yet run out once more. Indeed, we do believe Everton are looking for a goalscorer in January, and that could push Barry down the pecking order.
