Everton want a new centre-back this summer – and David Moyes may have an opportunity to land Trevoh Chalobah following a new development today.

Everton finished the 2025/26 season in dreadful fashion, and both Michael Keane and James Tarkowski came in for a lot of criticism.

If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰

The centre-halves at Everton have been good for a while, but those two did struggle and they are both approaching their mid-thirties.

A new centre-back would not go amiss this summer. There have been links to John Stones amongst others.

And Moyes may now have a chance to go after Chalobah, who’s a player he shortlisted when he was manager at West Ham United.

With weakness at centre-back emerging as a new problem for Everton, Moyes needs to get someone in – and Chalobah is someone he considered when he was manager of West Ham (via Guardian).

Today, Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to report exclusively that Chalobah is looking to leave Chelsea.

But there are a couple of potential problems in that Chalobah is a wanted man and Italian club Como have actually bid.

He said: “Trevoh Chalobah can leave Chelsea this summer and Como send initial official bid for the centre back.

“Understand Inter have also looked at Chalobah among centre back options. English CB focused on World Cup but UCL clubs keen.”

There is currently no mention of any kind of asking price set by Chelsea.

But the Blues are notoriously strong sellers, so with the player having a contract until 2028, Everton can probably forget signing Chalobah on the cheap.

Chalobah would be a great addition for Everton

Chalobah would be a strong option for Everton.

He has played 117 games in the Premier League so he has good experience of the top-flight, and also offers versatility in that he can play in a centre-back pairing or a back three. He can even play at right-back.

Chalobah is much more athletic than Keane and Tarkowski which is important in a league that is brimming with pacy forwards.

And comments made recently by former Everton first-team coach Ashley Cole perhaps say it all about Chalobah.

“I’ll be honest, if Chelsea sell Trevoh Chalobah this summer, I think it would be a huge mistake,” he said (via Chelsea Fans Club). “Sometimes I look at modern football and wonder if clubs have forgotten the value of players who actually understand what the badge means.

“For me, he represents everything supporters say they want: commitment, professionalism, loyalty, and quality. Yet he’s the one constantly being sacrificed while others get endless chances.”

“I’ve watched Chelsea for years, and one thing supporters always respected was players who fought for the shirt. Trevoh Chalobah is one of those players. Selling him would be rewarding hype while punishing loyalty.”

One possible drawback would be that his injury record is not amazing. Chalobah has tended to miss a handful of games in most seasons in his career so far.

But there’s no doubt he would be a great signing and an upgrade on the two players that finished the season in Everton’s defence.
