Everton striker Ellis Simms is now very close to a Goodison Park exit as he looks set to move to Championship club Coventry City.

The 22-year-old academy graduate has been linked with a host of clubs this summer, including Ipswich Town and Swansea City, though the Sky Blues appear to have won the race for his signature.

Indeed, the Everton forward will ‘undergo medical tests’ today as the £8m deal looks set to be completed sooner rather than later.

That is according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who took to Twitter to report the news, as per earlier tweets by ElBobble.

Romano tweeted: “Coventry are set to sign Ellis Simms on permanent deal from Everton for £8m fee, confirmed – while Sporting are at final stages of Gyokeres deal.

Simms will undergo medical tests on Friday, as per @ElBobble.”

Simms and Everton parting ways is preferential outcome for both club and player

Ellis Simms was recalled early from his loan deal at Sunderland last January, as Everton rallied during the second half of the season to stay in the Premier League.

However, the 22-year-old looked out of his depth at times, though he did score a vital equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge back in March, his only goal in 11 Everton games last season.

As the Blues remained in the top-flight by just two points, Simms’ contribution cannot be underestimated, though securing an £8m fee for the forward is good business from Sean Dyche’s side.

Everton must now reinvest the cash in the club’s depleted forward line, though as per Romano’s tweet, the Toffees will miss out on Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is at the ‘final stages’ of a move to Sporting CP.

Indeed, Coventry are set to lose the Swedish international, but have a replacement lined up in Ellis Simms – perhaps Everton could learn a thing or two from such an organized approach to the transfer window.
