Everton have completed the signing of Thierno Barry.

After weeks of negotiations, Thierno Barry is officially an Everton player after joining in a £27m deal from Villarreal.

Barry netted 19 goals last season and is widely regarded as one of the best first-time finishers in Spain, so there is plenty of reason to be excited.

The France under-21 international is also exceptional in the air, using his 6ft 5 frame really well, which will lend itself perfectly to David Moyes’ system.

Villarreal fans have been reacting to his departure on X, formerly known as Twitter, and they have a lot to say.

How Villarreal fans have reacted to Thierno Barry joining Everton

Villarreal fans are pretty split in their thoughts about Barry’s exit, with some wishing him well while others can’t understand his decision to leave a team in the Champions League.

@TenaFT_ posted: “Thierno Barry was born to play in the Premier League but to tweet in LaLiga. His departure leaves a significant gap in charisma, presence in the box, and finishing at Villarreal, which will have to rethink its football without Baena and the absence of a reference point in the squad. We’ll see.”

“I don’t quite understand Barry’s decision to leave a Champions League Villarreal for an Everton that is a question mark,” @vdevcf1 commented.

“You’ve given incredible moments with your charisma and your aura, but money leads you astray, and out here it’s very cold. Grab a good fleece, go on,” @IvannAlbellaa added.

@Titozash said: “Come on, dude, go enjoy the Premier League, though I would’ve loved to see you compete in the Champions League, best of luck, champ.”

“At first, I didn’t trust you at all, but the truth is you’ve earned all my affection, and even though I can’t understand your decision… I hope things go great for you,” @tsunodism0 admitted.

@8CVF1923 posted: “Money distracts you too much. You should have played in the Champions League, you would have improved more with Marcelino, and next year top-10 Premier League teams would be calling you. You’re going to a team fighting to avoid relegation. Good luck, change your agent, and get your head straight.”

“There are things you should have done better, mainly off the pitch, but ultimately we’ll miss the good times and the banter. Thanks TB, and good luck in England,” @Villarreal_Rep added.

Barry’s first words for Everton

Barry has conducted his first Everton interview and explained that he was convinced to join after talks with Moyes.

“I’m very happy,” Barry told Everton TV. “It’s very exciting to be here. I just can’t wait to start and I hope to start very quickly.

“Everton is a big club in the Premier League. They have a good history and good players have played here, like Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. When I was young I liked to watch these players, now I want to do like these players who have gone before.

“I had good conversations with the manager. He told me I have the quality to play in the Premier League. He wants to do good work with me. He wants to help me on my road and I felt the sincerity with him so that’s why I chose to come here as well.

“For me, it is a dream to play in the Premier League. I think I proved in my career so far that I can adapt. For example, last season I went to LaLiga, which is a top league, and I think I had a good season for my first season. I’m not scared to play here and do the same.”
