Ruben Vinagre has spoken out about the challenges he faced whilst on loan with Everton last season.
Portuguese defender Ruben Vinagre spent last season on loan with Everton, but was only able to make four appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside club.
The 24-year-old spent the season on the bench at Goodison Park, or out of the match-day squad altogether when fitness issues took their toll. In total he was able to amass just 24 minutes of Premier League football.
Vinagre has recently joined Hull City on loan from Portuguese side Sporting and is now looking to get his career back on track in the Championship. He has recently spoken out about the tough time he endured in his stint with Everton.
As quoted by the Hull Daily Mail, Vinagre has said, “last season was a difficult season for me. I didn’t play as many games as I wanted to. It was not my decision; it was the coaches’ decision there. I respect that. I worked every day in training to prove to them that I have to play.”

Everton’s defence in transition
Despite Vinagre’s best efforts on the training ground, he wasn’t able to convince either Frank Lampard or Sean Dyche of his ability to contribute for an Everton side fighting against relegation.

Dyche has set about transforming Everton’s defence this summer. Conor Coady has been moved on to the second tier, whilst Ashley Young has joined the club, and Jarrad Branthwaite looks set for significant involvement following his successful loan spell with PSV Eindhoven.
As for Vinagre, his time with the club will go down as a transfer misstep for Everton and a blip in the player’s career that he will be eager to move on from as soon as possible. He certainly has the quality to impress in Championship and could turn out to be a star for Hull City this season.
