Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has now taken to Instagram and the 29-year-old’s post suggests that he is very unsure about his future.

The Portuguese international posted on his Instagram account to say goodbye to Lille following a loan spell at the French club last season.

However, Gomes states ‘we don’t know what the future holds’, indicating that a permanent move away from Goodison Park has not been ruled out.

Gomes posted: “We don’t know what the future holds, but I want you to know that I am proud to have represented this club and this city!

My family and I have been very blessed and no matter what happens we love you and you will forever be in our hearts!”

Gomes never quite rediscovered his form at Everton after horror injury

Gomes joined Everton from Barcelona in a £22m deal back in 2019 following a successful loan spell at Goodison Park.

However, the 29-year-old suffered an ankle break in November 2019 after a challenge from Spurs attacker Son Heung-min, ruling the Portugal midfielder out until February 2020.

Indeed, unfortunately for both player and club, Gomes would struggle to rediscover the form that made him a fan favourite at Goodison Park, and a loan deal was agreed with Lille last summer.

Making 18 appearences for the French side, who finished fifth in Ligue 1, Gomes aided Lille in securing a Europa Conference League play-off spot.

Gomes has one year remaining on his current deal with Everton and is soon to turn 30-years-old. One of the higher earners at the Blues, Gomes’ wages could be reinvested should he depart on a permanent basis this summer.

It is a shame how Gomes’ time at Everton didn’t quite meet expectations, however if the Toffees receive a bid for the Portuguese midfielder, it could be a good move for both player and club.
