West Ham United supporters have flocked to social media with the same point about their former and now Everton manager David Moyes.
David Moyes left West Ham United at the end of the 2023/24 season, and by all accounts, it was a disappointing campaign.
West Ham finished ninth on 52 points, and the consensus at the time was that the owners and supporters wanted a more progressive style of play.
But, the Hammers have been on a slippery slope since Moyes’ departure, and are now on their third manager after sacking Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter.
Nuno Espirito Santo is in the hot seat and suffered a bruising 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford yesterday, prompting supporters to make the same point about Moyes on social media.

West Ham are languishing in 19th place and yesterday’s defeat was a really worrying one, considering Brentford are fancied by some to be relegated.

That led supporters to voice their regret at Moyes’ departure a little over a year ago.
“Although I don’t agree with the karma stuff etc, it is true that we wouldn’t be in this position if Moyes was here and the squad would not look like what it is,” @irons221 added.
@charlhaslett commented: “Totally agree, be careful what you wish for, it can bite your arse, and it has big time.”
@Wildsnoopster admitted: “For the fans that didn’t want him out, we’re seeing what we feared we would. Getting top managers is hard and if you’re not a top club, it’s much harder and we threw him out and the fans are responsible. This ownership model wouldn’t have got rid of Moyes if the fans were happy.”
“Said it for years, the move 9 years ago killed us. It’s an awful place that’s never felt like home. Moyes worked miracles here but let’s be honest it just papered over the cracks,” @IronWorks1990 said.
@Mar85588 noted: “Moyes out brigade were unbearable and put a real downer through one of our most successful periods as a club.”
David Moyes admits he felt underappreciated at West Ham
Moyes appeared on the PLZ Soccer YouTube channel earlier this month and admitted he did feel quite underappreciated at West Ham.
“It felt a little bit like that (there was a lack of recognition and appreciation),” the Scotsman said.
“But I’ve got to say I had a brilliant time there. I loved it, I really did. And I had a really good relationship with everybody at the club.
“I got on really well with the board, and I didn’t have a big problem with them at all.
“When I look back, I think it was great years for me, but it was also good for West Ham as well. We had four years, and it was just beginning to get a little bit more solid (and consistent) at that time, but everything moves on.
“I was probably maybe ready to end it at the time at West Ham anyway and come back up because I’d been living in London for a long time. It worked out fine for me in the end.”
