It should be no surprise to see several players and high-profile pundits react to Everton’s successful Premier League appeal.

Sean Dyche’s side were awarded four points back after initially being hit with a ten-point deduction in November 2023.

“What they should have done is fine Everton, then the appeal goes in, and the judgment occurs afterwards. How are you going to do it before? It’s an embarrassing situation,” said Ian Wright on the Stick to Football Podcast.

The Premier League’s reputation has hit an all-time low off the back of this saga.

It’s not just Everton who are impacted. All of the Toffees’ relegation rivals are also in the dark.

West Ham travel to Goodison Park this weekend, and Michail Antonio has given player’s perspective on Everton’s current situation.

Talking on the BBC’s Players Channel, the West Ham United striker said: “Not really, because you can’t really pay attention to what other teams are doing and what’s going on.

“They got deducted 10 points, so if you are thinking they should stay on their 10 points, nah. Because it wasn’t like they didn’t have those points at the beginning. Them getting those points back shouldn’t really affect you.”

On Everton’s survival chances, he added: “Them being on 25 points doesn’t mean they are safe, they have to get to 36 points, so they still have a job to do.”

Antonio is right. Everton still have a significant job to do.

Yes, adding four points has helped, but no win in 2024 is slightly alarming.

This weekend presents the Toffees with another chance to finally put three points on the board. West Ham are coming off an impressive win over Brentford but have been inconsistent this season.

It’s up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto to finally find their goalscoring touch.

Consistency and quality in the finally third need to improve. Everton cannot simply rely upon set-pieces and goals from midfield to keep them clear of the bottom three.
