Everton manager David Moyes has now shared his early thoughts on deadline day signing Merlin Rohl.

Moyes was keen to add some further quality to his midfield following a number of departures over the course of the summer.

It took Everton until the final minutes of the window to land Rohl on the initial loan agreement from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.

The Freiburg manager admitted he wanted to keep Rohl, but the midfielder is now preparing for his potential debut against Aston Villa.

Following two consecutive wins in the Premier League, the German may have to bide his time to earn his debut in one of the league’s in-form sides.

Ahead of the game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, Moyes has admitted he’s liking what he’s seen from Rohl.

David Moyes impressed with Merlin Rohl in Everton training

Last week, it was suggested that Rohl has been impressing in Everton training during the recent international break.

The 23-year-old is even believed to have made a positive early impression with the other Everton players.

Speaking to the media from Finch Farm on Friday, Moyes admitted as much as he shared his initial thoughts on his ninth summer signing.

“I’ve been pleased with what I’ve seen, I have to say,” Moyes told the press.

“Look, he’s another young boy coming in from a different league, a different speed, a different intensity, but he’ll be able to handle it. I’ve got no doubt about that.”

Rohl has been learning from Jude Bellingham, who also shone in the Bundesliga during the early stages of his career.

Exciting times appear to be on the horizon for the Toffees, and Everton fans will surely be keen to see what Rohl can offer Moyes and his side.

Merlin Rohl’s attributes have excited Moyes

James Garner has impressed in the early stages of the season, but he could be deployed at left-back again this weekend.

Everton are left waiting on Vitaliy Mykolenko’s injury status ahead of Aston Villa’s trip to Merseyside.

Mykolenko returned to Everton from international duty with an injury following the game against Wolves last time out.

However, it seems as if Moyes will have no issue in deploying Rohl in midfield for his Everton debut.

“He’ll give us another addition in the midfield as I thought we were a little bit short there. He gives us another player as we all know AFCON comes around and we’re likely to lose two or three players,” Moyes added.

When asked whether there was any player Moyes would liken Rohl to, the 62-year-old said: “No, not really. He’s quite different, he’s a tall boy, with lots of really good attributes. Look, he’s a Germany U21 international, with hopes he will become a full international.”
