What Everton are now doing to Nottingham Forest after getting their appeal verdict back

Everton are dominating the headlines after their recent triumph against the Premier League.

Having proved their sanction unjust, seeing it reduced to just a six-point sanction, many are flocking to lambast the division for their treatment of the Toffees.

And not only that, but such frustration is spilling over, given how this conduct has scuppered all of those floundering around the relegation zone.

In the same way that Sean Dyche and his players did not know their fate, neither did Luton Town, Brentford or Nottingham Forest, all of whom are now below Everton following this four-point remuneration.

Funnily enough, the latter are still set to face their own charges too, which is of huge intrigue to the Merseyside outfit.

What Everton are going to do to Nottingham Forest

Now sat in 15th, ahead of the Bees on goal difference, a five-point gap has been established between Everton and the bottom three.

At this stage in the season that is crucial, especially given the fact that they are without a Premier League win in 2024.

Form must pick up eventually, but they have been given a huge incentive to push forward now with the bulk of the pressure taken from them.

However, their interest remains in PSR, particularly in how it might now affect a relegation rival.

After all, Forest are still yet to face the music. One report via iNews has actually detailed the club’s standpoint on that upcoming sanction: ‘While the club’s statement spoke of “vindication” and “satisfaction” there remains considerable frustration at the scale of the punishment the club have absorbed.

‘Six points for a £19.5m overspend is still viewed as a hefty punishment and one source told i they will now be “monitoring closely” what happens to Nottingham Forest. While the size of Forest’s overspend has not become public knowledge yet, it feels as if a precedent has been set.’

The relegation battle is getting interesting

Well, this decision has completely uprooted the entire relegation battle.

Especially now that Everton will be one of the favourites to pull away rather than go down.

Their awful run of form had many fearing for their top-flight status, and with Luton Town enjoying a mini resurgence, it seemed like a perfect storm was brewing for the Hatters.

However, they are now having to chase down the Tricky Trees, who likely will be met with their own points deduction sooner or later too.

This ongoing uncertainty has drawn scorn from Sam Allardyce, but for Everton, who now can assume that any further punishment will be far smaller for them, this is a huge positive which has handed them a major boost to their safety ambitions.
