Everton have really high hopes for teenage midfielder Harrison Armstrong.

Harrison Armstrong has been a hot topic among Everton supporters for some time, with many in and around the club excited by his lofty potential.

Preston fans were in awe of Armstrong during the first half of the season before David Moyes decided to recall him.

The 18-year-old made his full Premier League debut against Wolves last week and certainly made a good impression.

Armstrong played the full 120 minutes against Sunderland at the weekend, too, and speaking to the media after the game, he said something which shows why he’s different to the rest.

Everton teenager Harrison Armstrong has an elite mentality

Speaking to Everton’s website, Armstrong spoke about his experience in the first-team and admitted he always knew he wanted to skip under-21s football and throw himself straight into the men’s game.

“I think my dream was to do that,” the 2007-born explained.

“I’m not going to sit here and lie and say that it was something that I was never wanting to do. I was always quite greedy. I always wanted more.

“I never just wanted to settle for, you know, moving up to the 21s and playing a few games. I always looked on to the next thing. And I think that says a lot about my personality at times.

“But I think I try not to put too much pressure on myself. I think what comes naturally to me and what’s best to happen will happen for me. But obviously, it comes from hard work and taking your chances when you get it.”

Clearly, Armstrong has an elite mentality for his age, and in those quotes, you can hear how mature he is, almost reminiscent of when Jude Bellingham was first coming through and doing interviews.

That desire to always strive for more is exactly what will separate him from being an average midfielder to a Premier League superstar.

Harrison Armstrong explains what he’s learnt in Everton’s academy

Armstrong also discussed how he’s learned key principles in the Everton academy, which are helping him in football and in his day-to-day life.

“I think being in the Academy from so young, they instil lots of personality traits and, you know, how morals of what an Everton player should be,” the England youth international said.

“I think each person always has their own individual traits, but (the Everton morals were) always hard work and competing.

“I think I’ve kept that throughout the age groups, and I think I’ve taken to that more than other things and it’s really helped me.”

Former Toffees goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was always so complimentary of Armstrong and predicted him to become a ‘special’ player.

He’s certainly on that pathway, so it’ll be interesting to see if Moyes decides against sending him back to Preston for the remainder of the season.
