What insiders at Everton are saying about John Textor and Farhad Moshiri after claims of takeover meeting

Everton continue to be stuck in takeover limbo, with the lack of progress always a bad sign for fans.

It feels like, unless they solve their ownership debacle, the club cannot really progress forwards, given they can therefore only really invest what they have gained from player sales.

They are not being bankrolled by a billionaire anymore, and are far from free from PSR’s restraints.

In fact, the Toffees don’t even have an owner who seemingly cares, with his indifference evident by his lack of attendance at matches.

They need Farhad Moshiri out sooner rather than later, but there are just too many hurdles to ever make this a streamlined process.

The latest on John Textor’s Everton takeover

Despite rumours having circulated just yesterday that John Textor had met with Farhad Moshiri over the Everton takeover, the Liverpool ECHO were equally as quick to deny those claims.

In fact, their sources, reported insiders from the club, suggested that the American had not even been in Liverpool, let alone met with the majority shareholder of the Toffees.

Their report reads: ‘Everton owner Farhad Moshiri visited club sites in Liverpool on Tuesday, but he was not joined by John Textor or any of the American’s staff as a report claims that the pair are closing in on an agreement over a takeover deal. The Guardian states that Textor is understood to have arrived in London on Tuesday before travelling to Liverpool on Wednesday to meet Moshiri, with sources close to the deal anticipating that it could be agreed in the next few days.

‘However, the ECHO has been told by Everton insiders that nobody from the Textor camp was with Moshiri when the wantaway majority shareholder attended a board meeting with senior executives at the club offices in the Royal Liver Building on Tuesday while also visiting the construction site of Everton’s new stadium to check on progress in what was a scheduled visit that had been in his diary for a while.’

Can Everton survive without an owner?

Whilst it is completely unsustainable not to have a rich benefactor waiting in the wings to steer the club in the right direction, at the moment, Everton are on the right path despite the unrelenting takeover turmoil.

In fact, it’s quite admirable just how well Kevin Thelwell is doing with no outstanding superior, having to act as the club’s accountant, scout and negotiator.

But, after this summer, few can deny his credentials, having earned a huge sum of money for three out-of-favour players, and replaced them with largely high-quality additions.

Naturally, going on too long without an owner, or without an owner who is invested, will prove catastrophic.

However, it will likely not result in the complete dissolution of the club, as there will always be someone waiting in the wings to snag a bargain.

It’s not a long-term strategy that anyone should employ, but one made possible due to Thelwell’s brilliance.
