The Friedkin Group have a lot to deal with once the Everton takeover is complete, and one of the underlying issues is the future of Kevin Thelwell.
- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Everton fans can expect a whole range of changes once the takeover is complete as the Friedkin Group look to build from the top downward.
Looking to build from the board level downwards is something that Landon Donovan has suggested after seeing the downfall of the Toffees since his time at the club.
As we know, the Friedkin Group have already held talks with Dane Murphy, though that seemed to be more aimed towards a potential consultancy role across the portfolio.
One man whose future is up in the air with his contract set to expire in the summer is Kevin Thelwell, and Graeme Bailey has shared an update on his situation at Everton.

Graeme Bailey issues update on Kevin Thelwell’s situation at Everton under the Friedkin Group
Speaking exclusively to Everton News, Graeme Bailey has stated that the Friedkin Group are assessing other options, though that doesn’t mean Thelwell won’t remain at the club in some capacity.
“Thelwell, he knows it’s a big few months ahead for him. I’m told that the Friedkin Group are looking at other options. That doesn’t mean to say he’ll be gone, but they have been assessing other options.
“They can only do so much because they haven’t got the keys yet to the club. I know Thelwell will want to stay in the job and it’s a very exciting project with the Friedkins moving to a new stadium.
“And I’m told that he feels he’s managed to steer what is a pretty ropey ship through some pretty dreadful, nasty waters, so I think he’ll be hoping to stay. Whether he does, I don’t think there are any guarantees yet, but Thelwell is much more likely to be staying than Sean Dyche, I can say that.”
Kevin Thelwell issues Everton takeover update
Speaking to iNews recently, Kevin Thelwell gave a brief Everton takeover update and his honest opinion on the Friedkin Group taking over.
“There’s definitely reasons for Everton fans to feel optimistic.
“The new stadium [at Bramley-Moore Dock] is incredible, there’s potentially new ownership who feel like the right people to me and it feels like they’re going to take over soon, which I think is a huge positive.”
He also added that behind the scenes, work is being carried out so that the new ownership can hit the ground running when they’re in post.
“And then behind the scenes we’ve been working hard to scaffold up and build something so that when that time comes we are ready to be able to hit the ground running.
“Things can turn around pretty quickly but I think we’ve got a lot of really good people here doing really good work and in due course hopefully we can make that next step.
“We’re not there yet but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We’re definitely all pushing now to take that final step outside into the sunlight.”
