Everton owes a great debt of gratitude to Sean Dyche, for what he has done during his spell in charge.

After all, he took over a team seemingly destined for the drop, ravaged by Frank Lampard’s tenure and lacking confidence and quality in abundance.

And yet somehow he turned them around and spearheaded a survival push, culminating in a dramatic final-day win that affirmed their Premier League status.

The following season the Toffees would be dealt with two points deductions due to financial wrongdoing, and yet he still avoided relegation by some distance.

Perhaps undervalued across English football, Dyche’s Everton future remains uncertain as Dan Friedkin, the new owner, prepares to take over.

Well, with Erik ten Hag having now been sacked by Manchester United, there might be an opening that he will be eyeing.

Martin Tyler once made bold call about Everton’s manager

Especially after what Martin Tyler said back in May on the Joy of Football podcast, with Sky Sports’ legendary commentator making a bold call about Dyche.

And now, with a fresh vacancy in the Old Trafford dugout, his claim could well intensify.

At the time, he stated: ‘I’ve said Sean Dyche should be considered by Manchester United.

‘Gareth Southgate is being considered by Manchester United, we believe.

‘And Sean maybe as well, because it is a fresh point of view and they need some freshness, they need a different point of view, a different sense of purpose. And maybe if you were sitting around a table with all those new influences at Manchester United, you could make the point and make the case that actually what you do need is something a bit closer to home.

‘It was tough for David Moyes because it’s straight on the back of Fergie. It’s a terribly difficult job to follow. And since then, obviously people have come and gone without… have Manchester United lost that DNA that they had?

‘I would suggest probably they have, so maybe somebody who’s grown up in the country where Manchester United have had all those years of success and looked upon with reverence by so many people, that maybe that’s the way forward. But you have people that are way above my pay grade.’

Would Sean Dyche be a good appointment for Manchester United?

Whilst most might laugh at the idea of Dyche taking over at Manchester United, perhaps, just until the end of the season, it might actually be a smart move for the new ownership at Old Trafford.

After all, he takes no fools and isn’t afraid of ruffling a few feathers.

His style of play is not enthralling by any means, but his no-nonsense outlook, where at the very least he demands 100% effort, might spark something behind the scenes with the Red Devils.

They have tried all different types of managers, with varying styles.

However, in the end, almost all have been let down by their players.

Dyche would not be a long-term solution for United, but he might whip a few into shape, and weed out the bad eggs ahead of next summer, when they could then get rid.

The Everton manager is a brash, uncompromising individual who would not wilt under the challenge presented.

However, his name is unfortunately never going to draw enough acclaim to be considered for such a role, making all this hypothetical speculation.
