Everton are just ten days away from a highly anticipated Merseyside derby.

The Toffees have had very few memorable moments against Liverpool in recent years, but there is a slight sense of optimism around Goodison Park after bagging three wins in four games.

With a higher xG than Manchester City this season, Everton are looking a lot more effective in attack and could use that to their advantage against a rather nervy defence at Anfield.

While the Reds have only conceded nine goals in eight games, they have only one clean sheet in the Premier League and have conceded first to the likes of Wolves and Bournemouth.

Of course, it is a huge ask for Everton to turn over Liverpool in their own garden but supporters will take the short trip across Merseyside feeling a lot more excited than in previous weeks.

Ahead of the derby, we take a look at Everton’s last five wins over their fierce rivals.

Liverpool 0-2 Everton (2021)

One that every Everton will remember very well is their most recent win at Anfield – and the only victory away from home since 1999.

Richarlison opened the scoring only minutes from kick-off, before Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late penalty claimed all three points after Liverpool failed to put their chances away.

Victory at Anfield left the Toffees seventh in the Premier League table under Carlo Ancelotti – below their rivals only on goal difference.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool (2010)

Everton’s last win in the derby at Goodison Park came in 2010, in the first match since Liverpool had been taken over by John W Henry.

Goals from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta put the Toffees in the lead, while an outstanding defensive performance secured all three points on home soil.

A team that included the likes of Leighton Baines, Leon Osman and Phil Jagielka sat mid-table after eight games. Meanwhile, players such as Paul Konchesky, Raul Meireles and Maxi Rodriguez found themselves 19th in the Premier League table.

Everton 1-0 Liverpool (2009)

Liverpool did the double over Everton in the 2009/10 Premier League season, however the Toffees went unbeaten across two legs in the FA Cup.

After a 1-1 draw at Anfield, Everton claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in the fourth round tie.

Liverpool lost Steven Gerrard to injury and Lucas Leiva to a red card before Dan Gosling’s curling effort sent Everton through to the next round only minutes from a penalty shootout.

Everton 3-0 Liverpool (2006)

A very memorable hammering saw Everton saw Tim Cahill give the hosts the lead, before a brace from Andrew Johnson claimed all three points at Goodison Park.

The likes of Fabio Aurelio, Mohamed Sissoko and Luis Garcia simply couldn’t handle David Moyes’ side.

Another tight game on Merseyside saw Lee Carsley score a 20-yard stunner to gift Everton the win in the 200th Merseyside derby.

The victory for the Toffees pushed them up to second place in the Premier League, putting them 12 points clear of their arch-rivals.
