Amadou Onana’s Everton future has become a talking point in recent weeks, with the Belgian midfielder attracting attention from a host of clubs.

The Toffees being linked with Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips has seen questions emerge about Onana’s future. Reports suggest Phillips is viewed as the 22-year-old’s replacement.

Barcelona are believed to be long-term admirers of the Belgian but were initially put off by Everton’s £50million-plus price tag.

However, according to reports in Spain, the situation has now changed.

The press in Spain is never shy when it comes to transfer rumours, and ‘Sport’s’ latest report is no different.

The Spanish newspaper insists the situation surrounding Onana’s future has now changed, with Everton needing to sell players before June 30 in order to raise funds.

The report read: “The scenario has completely changed since the English club needs to sell several players before June 30 to avoid problems due to their financial fair play, and the figures could add up if Barça takes the step to sign him.”

Furthermore, it’s believed Barca’s new manager Hansi Flick is a big fan of Onana and that the Belgian is open to moving to Spain.

Sport added: “Onana is a footballer that Flick also likes, and the player would be delighted to come to Camp Nou, but economic problems are also pressing on Barça and it is very difficult for them to be able to advance a transfer operation of this magnitude before June 30 by far. that the price will be really attractive.”

Amadou Onana is going nowhere at the moment

It feels like the noise from Spain doesn’t have too much weight. There’s no reason to suggest why the Catalan press would have a better idea of the financial situation at Goodison Park compared to the tried and tested journalists used daily by Evertonians.

Only time will tell whether Everton really do need to sell players.

If a fire sale is required, Onana would be one of the names that will emerge frequently. Given his age and current standing within Sean Dyche’s plans, the Belgian is a player who could raise a significant sum should he depart.

Certainly, one to keep a close eye on should departures ensue in the coming weeks and months.
