Why Man City’s FFP case is ‘very different’ as Simon Jordan takes dig at Everton

Everton have spent the entire day patiently awaiting the outcome of the Premier League, with another guilty verdict having since been confirmed.

Having been hit with the harshest points deduction in the division’s history just months ago, many thought they had overcome the worst, with a four-game winning streak expelling the hindrance received.

Well, it seems they are not finished with the Toffees yet, as both they and Nottingham Forest are set to be in all kinds of fresh trouble for daring to try and compete.

The media need to start shining a proper light on the corruption afoot, with rules only in place to allow those at the top to stay there, but instead many are feeding into the Premier League’s narrative.

After all, they cannot afford to lose their access to the world’s most profitable football league.

TalkSPORT is very often a station that seeks to buck that trend, but Simon Jordan toed the line today as he sought to dispel a longstanding myth surrounding Everton.

What Simon Jordan had to say about Everton’s FFP situation

As someone who has both defended and attacked the club, the former Crystal Palace chairman has been largely consistent with his outlook on the Toffees’ mismanagement.

After all, he rightly lays the blame at Farhad Moshiri’s doorstep, and again emphasised his sympathy for the fanbase.

However, he was desperate to ensure that the everyday supporter stopped using Manchester City as a case study with which to measure their ruling.

His rant stemmed from that notion: ‘Their charges, and their processes, and what they’re being alleged to have done is very different from straight accountancy principles over a three-year cycle. Different. Completely different.

‘And Everton’s position, as much as I agree with the idea that ten points is a harsh sanction, they copped to it. They haven’t missed Financial Fair Play by £9m like people say, they’ve missed it by £250m and they were allowed to make a series of adjustments, including COVID adjustments, and interest payments on the stadium, and costs of capitalisation of the stadium that they’re building. All that was allowed to be included and they still missed it.

‘Everton’s is not a £9m problem as it’s being characterised by some people, it’s a £250m miss.’

‘They didn’t take anything on the chin, they’ve cried and they’ve gone out and defended themselves against it. And they’ve got everybody that will listen to them to write letters including the former Bank of England governor, so they’ve got themselves busy.

‘They haven’t taken it on the chin at all, and to be honest with you neither would I expect them to.’

Simon Jordan is frustratingly right about Everton

Whilst the manner in which he has put across his feelings could seem derogatory, Jordan is really just saying what we as fans already know.

Manchester City have played the game to perfection, and will likely continue to avoid punishment so long as they can continue kicking the can down the road.

Everton have been punished for trying to do the right thing, in typically hilarious Everton fashion.

The ‘nice club’ willing to act appropriately, in this game of sharks they have unsurprisingly been the first to come away bitten.

And so, whilst the £250m problem that Jordan mentions is somewhat gratuitous, the Toffees only have themselves to blame for trusting the Premier League to do the right thing.
