Winger turned Everton down due to Sean Dyche’s tactics, now he’s worth £50m and a Premier League star

Everton have had a number of transfer blunders over the years.

The signing of Beto immediately springs to mind as a current example, as he’s netted just four times in the Premier League since his £30m switch from Udinese.

Moise Kean, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Davy Klassen are other expensive flops in recent years – contributing to the Financial Fair Play issues Everton have had to contend with.

The Toffees have also missed out on a number of players who have gone on to rip it up elsewhere, with Viktor Gyokeres a notable example.

They also failed to land a £15m winger during the summer of 2023 and he’s now more than trebled in value and is a well-established Premier League star.

Everton left rueing failed Anthony Elanga transfer

Everton tried to sign Anthony Elanga in 2023 when he was made available by Manchester United for just £15m.

However, Elanga rejected the approach due to Sean Dyche’s pragmatic tactics and instead opted to sign for Nottingham Forest.

18 months later, the Sweden international is now considered one of the best wingers in the division and was even subjected to a £50m bid from Newcastle United in the summer.

Elanga is part of a Forest side who are currently sat in joint second and gunning for a spot in the illustrious Champions League.

The jet-heeled wide player has registered seven goal contributions this season which follows 14 goal involvements last term.

Everton must really rue the failed transfer.

Dyche’s style will come at the detriment of January business

Dyche has a reputation for playing a really negative brand of football and unfortunately, it will put off a lot of creative attacking players from joining – as evinced by Elanga.

It wouldn’t at all be surprising if The Toffees are snubbed by a few forwards this month for that very season.

So, it’s becoming apparent that Everton need to make a change in the dugout for the club to really move forward.

Graham Potter is currently being linked with Everton but as it stands, he looks better placed to join West Ham United.
