Burnley forward Wout Weghorst has been overheard talking about Everton boss Sean Dyche while away on international duty.

The forward, who has been heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park this summer, was caught on camera discussing his old boss Sean Dyche, sparking transfer rumours of a summer reunion.

The 30-year-old is currently with the Netherlands squad as Ronald Koeman’s side prepare to take on Croatia in the UEFA Nations League.

He was picked up at 2:24 on the Netherlands national team’s latest YouTube video, saying: “He’s my old trainer from Burnley, though, [Sean] Dyche.”

Though it is a snippet of conversation between two international teammates, and the context of the discussion is unknown, it is interesting that a player so heavily linked with Everton would be talking about the club’s boss.

Weghorst is not the answer for Everton

Sean Dyche paid VfL Wolfsburg £12m for Weghorst’s signature back in January 2022, with the Dutch forward contributing just two goals in 20 Premier League games.

A loan spell at Turkish side Besiktas followed, where Weghorst faired much better, scoring eight goals in 16 Super Lig games, before joining Manchester United on loan in January 2023.

Indeed, the 30-year-old failed to score a Premier League goal in 17 outings during his time at Old Trafford and has been informed that he will return to his parent club Burnley when his loan at United expires on June 30th.

Everton need investment in their attacking options this summer but must do better than Wout Weghorst, who has been uninspiring during his time in England.

The Blues have made some expensive faux pas signings in recent transfer windows and cannot afford to waste yet more of the club’s finances, especially with Sean Dyche potentially needing to sell before he can buy.

There remain a lot of questions regarding Everton’s immediate future, but Wout Weghorst is probably not the answer that the Blues are searching for.
