Newly-promoted Championship side Wrexham are trying to sign a former Everton player who they reckon could fire them to the Premier League.

Wrexham have won three consecutive promotions under the ownership of American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The Welsh club will compete in the Championship next season for the first time since 1982, so there is a real buzz around the place.

Already, Wrexham are flexing their financial power in the transfer market, having brought in the likes of Lewis O’Brien and Josh Windass, who had widespread interest in their signature.

They’re about to smash their transfer record with the signing of Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town, with a £7.5m deal agreed.

Now, as they continue their spending spree, Reynolds and his chiefs have turned their attention to a former Everton player.

Wrexham ‘pushing hard’ to sign former Everton defender Conor Coady

According to the Daily Mail, Wrexham are really ‘pushing hard’ to sign former Everton defender Conor Coady this summer.

Coady, who left the Toffees in 2023, is expected to leave Leicester City and The Red Dragons are in pole position to land his signature.

The 32-year-old has one year remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium, so Wrexham would have to pay a fee.

It’s understood Coady is impressed by the project presented to him, with Reynolds keen on securing promotion to the top-flight by 2027.

The Hollywood actors believe the veteran centre-back is the ‘ideal man’ to help them achieve their lofty ambitions.

Coady has been linked to Rangers

Coady, who made 25 appearances for Everton during the 2022/23 season, has been linked to Scottish giants Rangers.

Coady was in advanced talks to join Rangers, however, it appears as though talks have hit a snag, with Leicester keen to retain his signature.

Interestingly, former Everton sporting director Kevin Thelwell is leading the recruitment alongside Russell Martin at the Gers.

The Foxes are reluctant to sanction his sale until Marti Cifuentes has identified and brought in a replacement.
