Everton fans are preparing for a new dawn with The Friedkin Group set to complete their takeover of the club.
It’s been a long saga, but the American investors will finally have their feet under the table this week, with Farhad Moshiri’s reign to end after almost nine years.
Fans are hoping for better days under the new owners, with this squad in need of reinforcements to get the club back where it needs to be, and away from relegation dogfights.
A number of players have already been linked with moves to the club.
Igor Jesus could be an option for Everton, and the likes of Victor Lindelof and Tariq Lamptey have also been linked.
Another thing for the Friedkins to think about along with sporting director Kevin Thelwell, is players whose contracts at Goodison Park are expiring next summer.
And one man who falls into this category is Idrissa Gueye.
Gueye, 35, is coming to the end of the three-year deal he signed when he returned to the club from Paris Saint-Germain, and in January he’ll be free to explore pre-contract agreements with other clubs.
But some Everton fans are adamant this shouldn’t happen.
Everton fans want Idrissa Gueye contract extension

On social media, ahead of the Friedkins taking over at Goodison, fans have been talking about Gueye and his contract situation.
Despite his advancing years, Gueye has been a regular in the Everton starting XI this season under Sean Dyche.
Fans know that big changes will be on the horizon following the arrival of the Friedkins – but many really want to see Gueye extend his contract by another year.
Will Gueye extend at Everton?
It’s been another tough old season for Everton, but veteran Gueye has definitely been one of the Toffees’ better performers.
Gueye is clearly past his peak now. But the Senegalese dynamo still brings plenty of tenacity to the engine room.
The squad is in need of a rebuild, with Everton having the oldest average-aged squad in the Premier League, and it may well be that the Friedkins are keen to get that lowered.
Gueye has been linked with Qatari club Al-Duhail SC, so we’ll see if that move will come to fruition in 2025.
Potentially, it could be worth handing Gueye a one-year extension if he’s keen to stay, if anything because of his experience and the fact he could help younger players.
Dyche stated earlier this season Gueye has ‘experience and his knowledge of Everton’, and that this rubs off on others around him. So keeping hold for one more season may not be the worst idea for the new owners.
