Everton’s summer has already been one of mass improvement, but this squad is far from the finished article.
After all, there remains glaring gaps in their first team, with some areas like left-back and out wide still desperately in need of some additional depth.
However, Kevin Thelwell has given fans little reason not to trust him, and thus his latest conquest, seeking another centre-back, is one which Evertonians need to just assume that he is doing what is truly best for the Toffees.
Davinson Sanchez opens up on Premier League interest
With relentless rumours having linked Everton with a move for Davinson Sanchez, in a refreshing turn of events the Colombia international has actually come out on Caracol Radio to address what he has been hearing.
Touted for a £15m transfer just one year after leaving Tottenham Hotspur, with one bid reportedly already lodged, he was candid about this interest, admitting to being ‘proud’ that his performances are meriting such acclaim.
The 28-year-old claimed: ‘It is the reflection of good work.

‘I am a person who trusts a lot in working, in having the ability to overcome, in not being in a comfort zone, the comfort zone always limits your possibilities, one can go much further than where you are.
‘Teams and possibilities come, being on the radar of important teams, you are proud because you know that the job is being done well.
‘At the moment I have to join my team in the pre-season in the coming days and we will see what is best for me and for the club, I still have a contract and what is decided will be thinking about well-being.’
Davinson Sanchez could one day replace James Tarkowski
The debate amongst Evertonians of late has been regarding a centre-back, and whether the need for one is really justified.
After all, in James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, Sean Dyche boasts two of the Premier League’s most solid defenders. Why fix what isn’t broken?
But, at 31 years old, the former is not getting any younger, and that is without mentioning the innumerable rumours suggesting Jarrad Branthwaite will leave Everton sooner or later.
So, some kind of contingency plan is needed, hence Everton’s interest in Jake O’Brien and Sanchez.
It feels like, with their efforts to sign right-footed centre-backs, replacing Tarkowski seems to be the more pressing matter, but some fans have questioned the need to add any pressure to a backline that conceded the fourth-least goals last season in the division and kept the second-most clean sheets.

Sanchez is not similar to the former Burnley defender though, as his background is far more aligned with playing out from the back and using his speed and strength to dominate.
Whether Dyche thinks he can be mauled into the Tarkowski mould, or if he just fancies a shift in philosophy, for a cut price Sanchez is worth the risk given the reward they would serve to gain should they unlock his potential.
