Everton are now closing in on their third signing of the summer transfer window after a difficult week on Merseyside following the takeover collapse.

Jesper Lindstrom is now on the verge of becoming an Everton player after a loan was agreed with Napoli which includes the option to buy.

But this is not stopping Sean Dyche‘s men from looking to add more over the coming weeks as the Toffees gear up for the new campaign.

And that is exactly what the Blues are doing as they now turn their attention elsewhere to the other side of the pitch with defensive reinforcement on the mind.

Everton may have gone into the summer with one of the Premier League’s best defensive records, but it seems Dyche would like to further add to that backline.

Everton now eyeing defender after Jesper Lindstrom’s medical

Already this summer, Everton have seen a number of players depart the club; with some of those forced due to the PSR situation last month.

Ben Godfrey was one of the players who was sold for some much-needed funds last month as he joined Serie A outfit Atalanta.

This has, however, left Everton one short at the back given the two signings made so far in Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam have added to the attack and midfield, respectively.

But now it may be time for the Toffees to turn their focus in the market to a potential defensive addition.

According to journalist Santi Aouna, Everton are one of the sides who are now pushing to sign Jake O’Brien from Lyon.

However, it is not just the Blues who are showing interest from the Premier League with Thomas Frank’s Brentford also on the scene.

The journalist claims the Ireland international’s future away from Lyon is almost confirmed this summer.

It now seems like a straight battle between the interested sides as to who will now become O’Brien’s next club.

Jake O’Brien could be an ‘unbelievable’ signing for Everton

The 23-year-old would arrive on Merseyside as one of the Premier League’s biggest players which would offer the Toffees a real advantage in the air.

O’Brien has been hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by Irish football presenter Paul Nealon earlier this year with the presenter also claiming O’Brien to be ‘criminally underrated’.

Having played 27 times for Lyon in the league last season, the Irishman was able to help himself to four goals and two assists.

But it is the qualities which he will bring Everton’s defence which would define his potential move to Goodison.

And with the height which he possesses, Dyche could land himself a real aerial expert in the 6ft 5 centre-back.
