It’s fair to say Everton fans aren’t very fond of Neal Maupay.
Neal Maupay has constantly teased Everton fans since leaving on loan for Marseille, where he has hardly played in recent weeks.
Back in December, Maupay admitted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he gets enjoyment when Everton lose.
“Whenever I’m having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile,” the Frenchman said.
As recently as last month, Maupay aimed another sly dig at Everton, saying he ‘didn’t even have to think twice’ about leaving Goodison Park.
Speaking on Ben Foster’s podcast, Abdoulaye Doucoure shared what Neal Maupay told him when he asked why he winds up supporters.

Doucoure explained that he is good friends with Maupay, but even he can’t understand some of his antics with players and supporters.
“My good friend Neal, I’m very close to him, to be honest, you know, even when he was here, I was always with him, I was always going out with him,” the 32-year-old said.
“A lovely guy, obviously on the pitch, totally different, you know, a crazy guy on the pitch. Even sometimes I’m surprised, I go like, what are you doing? He says, oh, you know, he’s just, he says calm down. You know what I mean? He just loves it. He just loves it.
“He just has the banter. He just have to. He likes to reply to people on X, on Instagram. He just like, I said, look, this is you, you know, I can’t do that because, you know, it’s just too much, you know what I mean?
Doucoure added that he understands why Everton fans hate him.
“But like, I love him, to be honest. Obviously, the Everton fans, they hate him. I understand why, because sometimes I think he crossed the line. But he’s a lovely guy. It’s good to have these characters in football.”
Maupay can’t get a game for Marseille
Maupay has been named as an unused substitute in the last five games for Marseille, who could sell him this summer.
The French giants are obligated to pay £3.3m for Maupay at the end of the season, but they’re already looking at offloading him either to the Premier League or Championship.
Marseille supporters have been heavily critical of the Everton loanee this season, even holding up a banner against him in January.
It read: “Maupay – you’ve gone from a son of the club to a son of a b—-.”
