Everton are in the market for a left-back this summer transfer window.

David Moyes has been wanting to sign a new left-back since the day he returned to Everton almost 18 months ago.

The Toffees have been linked to Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Antonee Robinson has also been on their radar for some time.

Matt Targett admits he’s ‘done’ at Newcastle amid Everton interest

Targett, who is on loan from Newcastle United, has registered a commendable eight goal involvements in the Championship.

That amplifies his superb attacking capabilities, which the Toffees currently lack with Vitalii Mykolenko.

The 30-year-old, whom Kim Hellberg has described as ‘absolutely fantastic’, has recently been speaking about his future and states that his Newcastle career is finished.

“The future? I’m not sure to be honest,” Targett explained.

“I believe I’m done at Newcastle so that chapter is closed. Hopefully we get promoted here (at Boro) and there will be a contract for me.

“But if not, I’ve played as much as I can this season, so I’ll assess my options.”

Targett evidently would prefer to stay at Middlesbrough if they gain promotion, but the Teessiders are probably now the underdogs against Southampton in the play-off semi-finals.

Everton will no doubt be keeping close tabs on the second leg as they’ll be in a strong position to sign Targett on a free transfer if they lose.
