Alan Myers outlines Everton’s transfer plans alongside Wilfried Gnonto interest

This is a summer of revolution for Everton, and it is startling that it has happened so quickly.

After all, Kevin Thelwell had tempered fans’ expectations with a grim prediction for the transfer window, claiming that major outgoings were far more likely than star-studded acquisitions.

Yet even before Amadou Onana’s transfer to Aston Villa, three new signings have already been confirmed by the Toffees, largely funded by the departure of two less-important assets.

And now, set to gain a huge fresh cash injection, even more is expected from this summer.

Alan Myers delivers Everton transfer update

Unsurprisingly, Everton’s rekindled interest in Wilfried Gnonto will dominate headlines at the moment, as Sean Dyche sparks back up his efforts to tempt the Italy international from Yorkshire to Merseyside.

This was a saga that dominated the entirety of last summer, with the 20-year-old even handing in a transfer request in an effort to push through the move.

However, it did not go through, and he would stay at Elland Road, scoring eight and assisting twice from 19 starts as the Whites lost in the Championship play-off final.

Alongside Gnonto, Everton retain interest in other stars, and Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has now provided a transfer update alongside this well-documented pursuit.

He wrote on X: ‘Everton want to sign him [Gnonto], nothing definite yet, my understanding is a winger and a defender but I don’t expect anything until Onana is done to Villa.’

This renewed interest in Gnonto is certainly well-founded, especially after Everton failed to sign Jaden Philogene from Hull City.

Clearly seeking a Championship talent to fulfil their desire for a new winger, links to Yaser Asprilla have only reaffirmed that notion.

However, this mould of player is not merely a skilful trickster. They must have a fierce work rate, especially if they are to make the transition into Dyche’s side.

He demands full-blooded commitment to the cause, and fortunately Gnonto has already showcased that within Daniel Farke’s all-action philosophy.

Last season, alongside those aforementioned goal contribution figures, the youngster ranked in the top 17% for tackles per 90 and the top 8% for clearances per 90, when compared to other wingers across Europe’s next 14 competitions outside the top five.

Already a full international too, there are little downsides to this deal.

So, with a back pocket lined with Onana’s hefty fee, and a set of transfer targets lined up, expect plenty more activity before this transfer window slams shut.
