Alan Myers says Everton had agreed to sign £15m winger before Fulham hijacked move

Everton entered deadline day full of hope, and yet at the moment, it seems like they are set to just sign the sole player they had already tied up before the day even began.

It marks a really disappointing return from the Toffees, with Kevin Thelwell sure to be kicking himself for not handing Sean Dyche more tools with which to work.

The greatest regret he will have from the day is undeniable Ernest Nuamah, who now seems poised to join Fulham for just £15m.

That is, despite what Alan Myers has now revealed…

Taking to X, the Sky Sports journalist sought to provide his thoughts on the matter, which marks a crushing blow for Thelwell.

Ahead of the deadline day, it seemed like all of his eggs were in the 20-year-old’s basket, with Everton seemingly closing in on a deal for Ernest Nuamah.

And yet, with just hours left of the window, he seems all but set to opt for Fulham.

What’s even worse is that, according to Myers, just days ago he had effectively agreed to move to Merseyside.

He revealed: ‘It was a lot more likely, I think the clubs had agreed.’

Everton have lost their pulling power

It seems that, as their status in the Premier League has slowly waned after numerous relegation battles, which has in turn only worsened their finances, Everton no longer have any pulling power.

Naturally, there are still some occasions where a player will be tempted to Merseyside by the allure of Goodison Park or the infamous support received.

However, everything good that once made Everton such a revered club has regressed massively in recent years, with even the home crowd not quite as vocal as it once was due to the nervousness of so much peril.

There is little incentive for a player to join the Toffees anymore, with West London offering a far more attractive proposition, in a nicer area of the country, and likely on far more money too.

Nuamah is exactly what Everton needed, and yet it is the Cottagers who will benefit from his services.
