Everton at risk of losing out as Fulham launch move for £15m Sean Dyche target at last minute

Everton entered today’s deadline day with a few set-in-stone targets, with their interest in them well-documented.

Some might criticise this approach, to make their interest known, but it is the way that the Toffees have frustratingly operated for years now.

It was somewhat quelled earlier in the window, but on deadline day, it’s impossible to mitigate for such outside noise.

All that matters is ensuring that they end up with the right people at Goodison Park when the window closes.

That could now be a worry…

Everton falter on Ernest Nuamah deal

The latest on Everton’s efforts to sign Ernest Nuamah, which once seemed like a foregone conclusion, comes courtesy of journalist Peter Rutzler.

The Athletic journalist has partnered with Adam Leventhal on this particular occasion, and taken to X to share an update that could have Evertonians worried for how deadline day might conclude.

He writes: ‘Fulham working on a deal to sign Lyon’s Ernest Nuamah before deadline. Talks ongoing, not done. Everton also hold interest. If goes through likely to be in region of initial £15m plus add-ons but TBC.’

Everton could miss out on another winger this summer

It is a tale as old as time, and one that has plagued Sean Dyche‘s entire tenure at Everton really.

Many will remember their desperate scramble to secure a winger during the January transfer window in 2023, his first in charge (albeit, he was appointed with days left).

Kamaldeen Sulemana was top of their list and, yet the trickster made the ill-fated decision to join relegation rivals Southampton. He would depart the Premier League with then, with the Toffees escaping at their expense.

That issue persisted into the 2023 summer, and now, a year on, they are still in the exact same position on deadline day.

Wilfried Gnonto has eluded them once again, and both Jaden Philogene and Yaser Asprilla have joined other clubs.

And now, with Nuamah being courted by Fulham, history is set to repeat itself all over again.

Everton will likely be fine without the 20-year-old speedster, but it is getting tiring now, seeing this once-great institution continuously get outmuscled by sides that were once miles behind them.
