Alan Myers shares what Everton ‘need’ ahead of proposed takeover

Alan Myers has shared what he thinks Everton really ‘need’ as the club continue their search for a new owner.

Everton announced that Farhad Moshiri had agreed to sell the football club to Miami-based firm 777 Partners back in September, and they are now awaiting approval on a takeover by the Premier League.

777 Partners have already come under great scrutiny given their unsuccessful ownership of their other clubs, that have seen fans of Standard Liege and Hertha Berlin protest against them.

There was also growing concern that the investment company wouldn’t have the funds to actually complete the takeover, and things are only looking more bleak on that front.

It was reported earlier this week that one of their leading UK partners Redstrike had cut ties with 777 Partners due to a ‘breakdown of the business relationship’.

It casts further doubt over the firm during a very important time in the proposed takeover, leaving fans uncertain as to where the club stands.

But Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has called for ‘calm’ at Goodison Park, despite issues surrounding the Merseyside outfit off the pitch.

Taking to X, he wrote: “I want the right owners like every other Evertonian, what I have said all along is that whilst all reporting and scrutiny is welcomed, we can’t have fans, journalists or anyone else picking our next owner, it can only be done through the proper regulatory process, we need calm.”

What happens now?

The Premier League have already proven that Everton’s form on the pitch isn’t always the most important thing at a football club, with the Toffees very quickly being plunged into the relegation zone thanks to their ten-point deduction last month.

Sean Dyche‘s side have really impressed lately, but that doesn’t make the need for new owners any less important. It certainly doesn’t make the potential arrival of 777 Partners any easier to take, with the American firm so far receiving a lot of criticism and doubt over their suitability.

Everton have protested against Farhad Moshiri‘s ownership for some time now, but it doesn’t mean that the club should bring in any old billionaire. Things could still get worse than they have been.

It also would have been ideal for Everton to have had new owners in ahead of the January window, with recent results certainly not overshadowing the need for more squad depth.

The team’s form is the one positive though, and it looks like whoever does buy the club should be buying one that will be in the top flight next season.
