Alan Shearer shares who he thinks is going to win out of Manchester United and Everton on Sunday

Everton will be coming up against a Manchester United side who have just secured their first victory under Ruben Amorim on Thursday.

It has not been the start to the 2024/25 campaign which Everton will have been dreaming of over the summer as they sit narrowly above the relegation zone.

The Toffees could well find themselves inside the bottom three by the end of the weekend with Sean Dyche’s position at Everton under threat.

Everton will go into the game with slightly fresher legs than Man United who won in the Europa League on Thursday night.

There could even be an injury boost for the Blues with Armando Broja in action for Everton’s U21s earlier this week as he ramps up his rehabilitation.

But it is going to prove a difficult task for Everton who will be coming up against Amorim’s first league game at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Alan Shearer shares his Man United vs Everton prediction

Everton are coming into the game on the weekend on the back of two consecutive clean sheets, but it is going forward where the issues lie.

Speaking to Metro, Alan Shearer provided his prediction for the game at the Theatre of Dreams on the weekend.

“After the first two minutes of Amorim’s first game you thought ‘here we go’ but it all went a bit flat after two or three minutes and I thought they were fortunate to come away with a point,” he said as he predicted a United win.

“He’s had a few days to work on the system and they’ve played in Europe on Thursday, but I think with the home crowd, Man United will have too much for Everton, although it won’t be easy.

“It’ll be tough but they may just scrape the three points.”

Paul Merson expects United to beat Everton but admitted that he does have a sneaky feeling about Everton on the weekend.

Everton need to take something from Old Trafford

The game on Sunday is the start of what is likely to prove a grueling month of Premier League action for the Toffees.

Everton have failed to really make the most of their recent games against sides like West Ham and Brentford amid their struggles in front of goal.

But the Blues could well head into the new year on the back of some devastating results which could push them down into the bottom three.

The Friedkin Group are close to completing their Everton takeover, but they could well find themselves walking into a difficult situation if they arrive in January.
