Andy Gray now gives honest verdict after what he saw during Tottenham 2-1 Everton

Everton can leave yesterday’s clash feeling plenty frustrated, given the manner of their defeat.

The Toffees endured a poor, sluggish start, with Tottenham Hotspur racing into a two-goal lead, but that hindrance proved to be the incentive that kickstarted a top performance in the capital.

With the introduction of Andre Gomes, who added an immense level of control to the clash, it was instead the visitors who began commanding the ascendancy.

They pushed and pushed for goal after goal, eventually resulting in their 82^nd minute strike to half the deficit.

Striking the woodwork, seeing another effort cleared off the line and then having another goal denied by mere centimetres on the goal line, it was the story of Sean Dyche’s season, but taken to the maximum.

As such, Everton legend Andy Gray would tell his co-star Richard Keys how his former side did not deserve to lose, and perhaps were good value for much more.

Speaking on beIN Sports, he claimed: ‘Do you know what? I don’t think Everton deserved a point. I think they deserved three. I mean that. I think that Everton, by far, were the better side. Created the better chances.’

Did Everton deserve to beat Spurs?

Everton have often been the side forging the bulk of the chances in most of their games this season, and yet they find themselves wallowing around the relegation zone.

Whilst their points deduction is a big factor behind that, such profligacy has seen them miss out on vital points against Premier League rivals, in matches they certainly should have won.

Today was no different, as they boasted more shots, more shots on target, more big chances created and struck the woodwork more times too, via Sofascore.

It was a typical Dyche display, in which his side were starved of possession, but that did not matter following the conceding of their second as they truly clicked into gear.

As Gray notes, their relentless barrage of opportunities were enough to actually win them the match, not blindly steal a point on the road. It is a huge endorsement for what the 52-year-old has done on Merseyside, as the Everton side of 12 months ago would never have been able to put in such a showing.

With Manchester City just around the corner now, they are set to face their toughest test yet.

But with the Toffees flying of late, even if their win steak has been ended, and the Cityzens struggling, perhaps Goodison Park might play host to another scalp that sees a big win claimed.
