Andre Gomes has admitted that he is ‘already looking forward’ to being back amongst the action for Everton.
Andre Gomes made his long-awaited return to the pitch for Everton this afternoon, putting on an ‘impressive’ display and bagging a late goal.
The midfielder previously enjoyed a regular spot in the Toffees’ side, before his career on Merseyside began to go downhill and he was eventually sent out on loan to Lille last season.
Gomes really impressed in France and was a target for a number of European clubs over the summer, but he eventually remained at Everton.
However, the 30-year-old has been nursing an injury since pre-season and only made his first appearance for the club in 19 months this afternoon.
Gomes was named on the bench for today’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur, but came on earlier than anticipated when Idrissa Gueye was forced off with an injury inside half an hour.
The Portuguese star received high praise for his performance and was awarded with a goal for his efforts, though it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat by Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Gomes then took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his delight at returning to action, claiming he has really ‘missed’ it.
He wrote: “Not the result we wanted but we didn’t stop fighting for something more. Missed this Matchday energy and already looking forward for more! Thank you for your support, Toffees.”

The responses to Gomes’ post was filled with love and support from fans, who are extremely happy to see him back in the squad and look quite as good as he did.
Does Andre Gomes deserve to start for Everton now?
The midfielder’s passing was exquisite and he has surely forced his way into Sean Dyche‘s thoughts ahead of the midweek clash with Manchester City.
The extent of Gueye’s injury is unclear for now, but Dyche certainly won’t have any qualms about throwing Gomes in in his place if he is unavailable on Wednesday.
In fact, Gueye will know to be afraid about losing his place to his Portuguese teammate if Gomes can really impress while he is out.
If the 30-year-old can pick up some form for Everton then it could provide a real dilemma for the club, with Gomes’ contract set to expire in the summer. The former Barcelona man is thought to be raking in a whopping £112,212-per-week – making him the third highest-earner at Goodison, with only Abdoulaye Doucoure and Jordan Pickford earning more.
