Everton’s well-documented financial struggles has unsurprisingly hampered them in the market, leading to a quiet January thus far, and a summer in which they could only spend in specific circumstances.
For example, the big-money acquisition of Beto was only made possible because the payment was deferred until next season, therefore essentially making him a free transfer for the first year.
It is these kinds of fiscal loopholes that Kevin Thelwell has exploited well since joining the club, helping to bolster a squad severely lacking quality without breaking the bank.
However, that’s not to suggest that all of his dealings have been hits.

Neal Maupay marks an outstanding flop thus far, yet perhaps on a smaller scale the signing of Arnaut Danjuma has also disappointed.
After all, much was expected from the Dutchman, who had finally made his move to Goodison Park after snubbing the Toffees just six months earlier.
Is Arnaut Danjuma leaving Everton?
Now, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has sought to give his verdict on the ill-fated deal, which could soon come to an end.
He claimed: ‘Yeah, again, I think it’s key that Everton want a replacement. He doesn’t really fit into the way that Sean Dyche plays, which makes it a little bit of a strange signing in the first place.
‘But I think he felt having pulled out at the last minute in January to go to Tottenham that he almost owed Everton. It’s not worked out at all for him. There are clubs in Europe, including Lyon, who are keen to sign him. So if Everton can source a replacement, I think he would gladly jump.’
Has Arnaut Danjuma really been given a chance at Everton?
It would be disingenuous to suggest that Danjuma has been given a fair crack of the whip, with Sean Dyche notorious for finding what he perceives to be his strongest team and sticking with it.
Having settled on Dwight McNeil and Jack Harrison as his hard-working wide men, and becoming reliant on the goalscoring power of Abdoulaye Doucoure in midfield, instantly there was no place for the on-loan man.

As such, he has been restricted to a sole Premier League start, although has found the net in both the league and the EFL Cup.
Even last month saw him impress off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur, although this spurt of minutes has seemingly come too little too late.
If Thelwell has a replacement ready, then Danjuma’s exit will hardly be felt. If he does not, this could be a long second half of the season.
