Ashley Young has applauded Everton fans after a ‘massive’ win over Newcastle United last night.
Writing on his X profile, the veteran hailed the supporters from being with the team ‘from start to finish’.
Newcastle United headed to Goodison Park off the back of taking seven points from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United. However, they left Merseyside empty-handed.
Everton breezed past Eddie Howe’s side with three quality goals to catapult them out of the bottom three, weeks after they were handed a ten-point deduction for breaching financial fair play rules.
After narrowly beating Nottingham Forest at the weekend, Everton welcomed Seamus Coleman back to the time after seven months on the sidelines. This meant that Ashley Young was pushed forward into midfield, after primarily occupying the Irishman’s spot in defence.
Despite resuming a position that he hadn’t regularly taken since his days at Old Trafford, Young put on a solid performance and took to his social media afterwards to share his delight.
He wrote: “Great Team Spirit, Togetherness, Fighting for each other and fans again with us from start to finish ! Massive 3points ! Haha Respect. IYKYK ! WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED ! UTFT.”
Will Ashley Young keep his place in the team now?
The comments on Ashley Young‘s X post were very complimentary, with many impressed by his hard work at Goodison.
According to sofascore, the 38-year-old had 44 touches, two key passes, three successful crosses, won six ground duels and made five tackles.
Young was all over the pitch and put his everything into getting that win – one trait nobody can criticise him for even if he plays poorly.
The defender has struggled against big teams this season, as he was sent off in the Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool, before almost seeing the same outcome against former side Manchester United.
It will be interesting to see where he plays once everyone is back fit, though it’s safe to assume Coleman won’t be fit enough to start against Chelsea.
Nathan Patterson is also still an option on the right, though he might find himself sliding down the pecking order if Coleman forces his way back in. The Scot has only started one game in the Premier League since the start of September.
