What Seamus Coleman did to Everton fans after beating Newcastle United last night

Seamus Coleman was last delighted on his first Everton appearance in seven months last night.

As per Everton’s X channel, the right-back couldn’t contain his emotions at full-time.

The Toffees climbed out of the relegation zone on Thursday as they thrashed Newcastle United 3-0 on home soil.

Sean Dyche’s side have now made it eight wins from their last 12 games in all competitions and sit one point above the bottom three, despite last month’s 10-point deduction.

Despite Newcastle sitting 16 points above them in the Premier League table, Everton breezed past the visitors thanks to goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto.

Seamus Coleman was brought into the backline, with Ashley Young pushed further up the pitch.

While the 35-year-old was forced off at around the hour mark, he couldn’t help but celebrate at full-time.

In a video shared by Everton on X, Coleman is seen hurrying towards the supporters and punching the air in delight. The caption read: “Pure passion from the skipper. Street End bouncing. You really do love to see it.”

Will Ashley Young lose his place now?

Seamus Coleman did have a fairly quiet evening on his return to Goodison Park, but did a brilliant job at keeping Anthony Gordon out.

The Republic of Ireland international won two tackles, three clearances and one interception as he claimed his first senior clean sheet since the win over Brentford in March.

It’s a relief to have Coleman back in the squad, especially given how much Young appeared to have been struggling in that position. The veteran was sent off against Liverpool and came extremely close to the same outcome against Manchester United.

According to WhoScored, Young is the lowest rated player in the Everton squad to make more than five starts in the Premier League this season (6.3). He has also committed the third-highest amount of fouls (17).

While Coleman is likely to be benched against Chelsea this weekend, I think we can expect him to force his way back into the starting line-up on a regular basis again now.
