A round-up of the latest Everton news as Ashley Young makes a claim about the Blues’ fans against Newcastle United and a scout hails Sean Dyche’s ‘interesting’ prospect.

Ashley Young praises Everton’s fans against Newcastle United

Toffees full-back Young has praised Everton’s fanbase for their support ‘from start to finish’ at home to Newcastle this Thursday night. Dyche oversaw a shock 3-0 win over the Magpies to move the Blues outside of the relegation zone. The win would have put Newcastle in fifth.

Everton now sit 17th in the Premier League table, despite their 10-point deduction, after 15 games. The Goodison Park natives have also won four of their last six matches, during which only Arsenal (15) and Liverpool (14) have taken more points (13) than the Merseyside outfit.

Young loved the togetherness Everton showed to beat Newcastle, who had won in three of their previous four games. But the 38-year-old also took time to praise the Blues’ fans after the game. Young could clearly feel the impact of a passionate Goodison Park this Thursday.

“Great team spirit, togetherness [and] fighting for each other!” Young posted on X. “[The] fans, again, with us from start to finish! Massive three points! WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED!”

Sean Dyche explains James Garner’s absence for Everton

Everton coach Dyche revealed before facing Newcastle that midfielder James Garner missed the win through illness. The 22-year-old was a surprise omission from the Toffees’ team this Thursday. He had started in each of the Merseysiders’ previous nine Premier League games.

Garner had further featured in all 14 of Everton’s opening matches this term, which yielded one goal and one assist. He last appeared from Dyche’s bench during the Toffees’ 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in September. Garner had also impressed the Everton coach but was unavailable.

“Garner, who has been in great form, has gone down with a sickness bug,” Dyche noted, via Liverpool World. “It hit today and, therefore, we couldn’t really do anything about it.”

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has hailed Jarrad Branthwaite after the Everton centre-half produced a ‘10/10’ week. The 21-year-old impressed Kulig with his efforts in the Blues’ wins over Nottingham Forest and Newcastle. Kulig particularly appreciated his game on Thursday.

Branthwaite has become an essential part of Dyche’s plans and has started all of Everton’s last 13 Premier League matches. He especially stood out at Goodison Park to shut Newcastle out with a dominant display. The Toon had failed to score in just two of their 14 games prior.

“10/10 week for the 21-year-old Everton player,” Kulig wrote about Branthwaite on X. “One of the most interesting young CBs in Europe.”

Kulig further noted how Branthwaite won all six of his aerial duels and all eight of his ground duels as Everton beat Newcastle. The England Under-21 ace further made seven clearances, completed 77% of his 35 passes attempted and created a big chance for the Blues to score.
