Joel Piroe has explained why he turned Everton down in the summer.
Speaking in Leeds United’s pre-match press conference, the striker opened up on his decision to move to Elland Road.
Piroe netted 31 goals in 88 appearances for Swansea City before earning himself a move to Leeds United. However, the Dutchman was previously linked with a move to Everton.
The Toffees were obviously eager to bolster their attack this summer and had been linked with a number of strikers including Piroe.

However, a move to Goodison Park didn’t materialise and he instead chose to remain in the Championship with Leeds.
There was question marks over why Piroe didn’t want to make the jump up to the top flight, but he has now explained why he opted against signing for Everton.
Speaking ahead of Leeds’ trip to Hull City tonight, the 24-year-old said: “Well, I didn’t play really for the play-offs or directly for promotion and that’s one thing I needed to check off for myself, I think. Also being able to play a lot in the Premier League.
“It’s a big decision to make if you want to jump there [into the Premier League]. Or, try to get promoted with someone and earn your spot in the team first.”
A fair decision from Joel Piroe
It actually seems like a very smart decision from Joel Piroe, who is very carefully crafting his career rather than jumping at the chance to go straight to the Premier League.

It is certainly a loss for Everton though, with the forward already netting three goals in three games for the Whites.
However, Sean Dyche’s side will be hopeful that Beto proves to be a solid signing for them and Piroe’s decision to move to Yorkshire won’t matter.
