Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Gary Neville has now shared the one Everton moment from this season that he simply couldn’t believe.
The former Manchester United defender has stated that Everton’s 5-1 demolition of Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium was his ‘biggest shock’ of the campaign.
Speaking on Sky Sports, as reported via the company’s YouTube channel, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher selected their end of season awards on Monday Night Football last night.
Selecting Everton’s 5-1 win at the Amex Stadium as his overall shock of the season, Neville said: “I mean look Everton scrambling a 1-0 win or a draw, but seeing them go to Brighton and rip them to shreds shocked the living daylights out of me.
I don’t know where it came from. For me, that was the biggest shock of the season.”
Everton demolishing Brighton didn’t just shock Neville!
Indeed, few would have seen such a result coming and even the most optimistic Everton fan could not have predicted a 5-1 away win at one of the league’s most in-form sides.
Moreover, given the fact that Everton have struggled in front of goal all season, scoring five in one game seemed particularly unlikely.
However, the Blues were unstoppable and never looked back after taking a 1-0 lead with less than a minute on the clock.
It was a match that Everton fans will no doubt select as their standout performance in what has otherwise been a torrid campaign.
The overall team display as well as the individual performances of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dwight McNeil in particular were outstanding.
Indeed, with Everton just two points above the relegation zone with one game remaining, it was a win that is keeping the Blues afloat.
Everton now face a must-win fixture as they host Bournemouth at Goodison Park on Sunday.
