Everton’s takeover situation is nothing short of a mess, and a mess that has spanned over 12 months now.

First 777 Partners offered to take the club off Farhad Moshiri‘s hands, to devastating effect, before Dan Friedkin then threatened to save the Toffees with a bid of his own.

However, even he was not willing to fully wade into this fiscal disaster, opting out recently.

Fortunately, a fresh billionaire has emerged, and a bid is set to be made imminently.

John Textor submits Everton takeover bid

The latest on Everton’s takeover comes via journalist Alan Nixon, who took to his Patreon to actually detail one suitor who is set to submit a bid.

It reads: John Textor is making a new bid for Everton – as he looks to dump his Crystal Palace shares.

‘Palace co-owner Textor has found new allies and is looking to do a deal with Farhad Moshiri for the Merseyside outfit.

‘American Textor was overlooked in the last round of bidding but is keen to get a Premier League club he can control after growing frustrated at Selhurst Park.

‘Textor has made contact with leading Everton figures in the past few days in a bid to broker a deal.

‘He already knows the numbers of the debt from his previous bid and he is willing to sift through the problems relating to the ownership.

‘Textor has been in touch with the Premier League previously about his status if he buys into another club while still involved at Palace.

‘However there is optimism that he can also sort out that issue if he can win the battle for power at Goodison.’

At last a brave takeover suitor emerges in Everton deal

Everton’s dire financial situation has been well-documented for some time now, and thus the many takeover suitors must have been briefed on the mess as well.

So, it begs the question as to why Friedkin was so forthright in his efforts to acquire the club, when he had no intention of truly delving into the mire and getting his hands dirty.

It will take an almighty task to turn the Toffees into a force again, and even if steps towards sustainability have been made, it needs a hugely wealthy benefactor to back the vision and expunge the bulk of the debt that remains just to keep the club alive.

777 Partners could not manage this, and Friedkin would not.

Textor seems different, and arguably kickstarted this whole takeover saga by telling The Athletic just how desirable a club Everton are.

Well, now it’s time to put his money where his mouth is.
