Amadou Onana has once again been linked with a move away from Everton.

The 22-year-old Belgian is never far from the transfer headlines, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs vying for his services.

Towards the start of the January window, TEAMtalk suggested that Arsenal made an approach for Onana, who is contracted to the Toffees until 2027.

Furthermore, Spanish news outlet Sport suggests Barcelona are monitoring the physical midfielder ahead of the summer window.

Everton could face a fight to keep Onana, particularly with big-spending Chelsea also circling.

Chelsea open Amadou Onana talks

According to Belgian news outlet Voetbalkrant, Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign Onana in the summer.

It’s believed negotiations with Everton have already started and that the West Londoners are willing to splash the cash on the Belgian international.

The report also claims Everton won’t consider any offers below £51 million for the midfielder, who has started 16 Premier League games and scored once.

With over three years left on his current deal, a big bid is likely required to test the Toffees’ resolve heading into the off-season.

Everton stand firm over Amadou Onana

It’s encouraging to see Everton stand firm when it comes to Onana.

The 22-year-old has, for the most part, impressed during his time in the Premier League and played an essential part in maintaining the Toffees’ league status last season.

£50 million plus seems a fair price, particularly when considering the 20% sell-on clause due to Lille due to Lille should Onana depart.

As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), the Ligue 1 side are due a percentage of any future sale involving Onana. Everton paid £33million for the Belgian international (Sky Sports), so it’s within the Toffees’ best interest to maximise their potential profit.

Onana’s departure would disappoint the Goodison Park faithful, but considering the potential transfer fee, it’s a piece of business that could benefit the club in the long term.

For now, Evertonians will want to see the dynamic midfielder continue to impress for Sean Dyche’s side. Monday’s home clash against Crystal Palace is an excellent chance to return to winning ways and get the Toffees’ survival bid firmly back on track.
