Everton are looking to finish the transfer window strongly, but the club will not be signing one midfield target.

Charly Alcaraz should complete his move to Everton today after undergoing his medical yesterday.

But it’s thought the Toffees could potentially made two signings in total.

A midfielder could be on the agenda, with Everton having registered an interest in Josh Brownhill.

But one man who Everton will not be signing, despite showing some heavy interest recently is Carney Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemeka is set to complete a move to Borussia Dortmund, with the player having his medical today – and there is word of an interesting clause that’s been agreed.

Everton were keen to sign Chukwuemeka, and speculation then picked up following the serious knee injury for Orel Mangala.

But it was always going to require Everton freeing up a loan spot to get him in.

Armando Broja is injured, and Everton have been in talks with Chelsea about sending the player back to Stamford Bridge and getting another player in.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is also a player Everton have looked at.

So was Chukwuemeka, but he is now Germany-bound – and Fabrizio Romano has reported an interesting clause that’s in place.

He says: “Borussia Dortmund agree loan deal for Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, here we go!

“Loan move and buy option clause included for value higher than £40m release clause. Salary covered until June and loan fee also included. Medical on Monday.”

Too much work to do over Chukwuemeka for Everton

So Chukwuemeka is bound for Dortmund and seemingly, there was just too much work for Everton to get this deal done.

The clause that Dortmund proposed clearly appealed quite a lot to Chelsea as well.

It’s not often you get a club willing to pay more than a player’s current release clause.

Between that, and the fact there’s been no real movement over Broja, Everton were always likely to struggle to sign Chukwuemeka.
