Chris Sutton destroys ‘pathetic’ Everton as he makes his Tottenham prediction

David Moyes will be hoping to right the wrongs of Everton’s performance against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

It doesn’t get much easier for Moyes as the Scotsman will face Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side, but all may not be as it seems.

Everton may find themselves in the familiar position of a relegation battle, but Spurs aren’t exactly separated by a large margin in the Premier League.

It’s already telling for the new Toffees boss as Moyes is embarrassed by Everton’s decline.

Someone who is as opinionated as ever is Chris Sutton, who has given his verdict on Sunday’s encounter between the two out-of-form sides.

Chris Sutton’s prediction for Everton’s clash against Tottenham

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, Sutton made his prediction for a must-win game at Goodison Park.

“Sean Dyche was accused of being too defensive-minded before he got sacked last week, but Everton got a little bit stuck between being hard to beat and pushing for a goal when they lost to Aston Villa on Wednesday,” Sutton said.

“It meant they were quite open and, although David Moyes’ side had chances, Villa really should have won by more than one goal.

“I think it will be a similar story here.

“Everton’s lack of goals – they have scored only 15 in their first 20 games – is pathetic.

“It’s hard to make a case for Everton to beat Tottenham, even though Ange Postecoglou’s side are on a poor run too.

“Spurs have fallen so low in the table – 14th – that they need a win, and quickly. This might be the boost they need, although I am not convinced they will keep a clean sheet, even against Everton.

“Everton 1-3 Spurs.”

Sutton says Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ‘struggling’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a difficult season at Everton with the striker only finding the net twice in the Premier League this season.

Moyes hopes he can regain Calvert-Lewin’s confidence but judging by Everton’s performances in front of goal this season it seems like an almost impossible job.

The 27-year-old has had his critics this season with Sutton even calling Calvert-Lewin a ‘disappointment’.

The former Premier League striker didn’t stop there, as he added to his BBC column after talking about Everton’s lack of goals.

“It cannot continue but, while it does, it looks like the weight of the world is on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shoulders.

“It should not be a case of him or bust in terms of Everton finding the net but that’s how it felt against Villa and he is struggling. I have been there myself, when the goals are not flowing, and he looks hesitant and clunky in front of goal.

“As a striker, you have got to want chances to come your way but Calvert-Lewin looks like he is on the back foot in front of goal, and also that he’s lacking the clarity of mind you have when you are flying form-wise, and you just finish those chances without thinking about them.”

Everton’s main talisman could probably learn from Sutton after he scored over 150 career goals.

However, It seems as though Moyes isn’t giving up on Calvert-Lewin as he has the chance to impress against Tottenham.
