Everton have long been linked with a move for Federico Gatti.
A story from Calciomercato way back in December 2023 was the first time the Toffees were said to be keen on signing the centre-back.
The rumour continued into 2024, as Tuttosport claimed Everton held talks over Gatti while Sean Dyche was at the helm, only for the Italian to turn the Toffees down.
Now, a new story from Tuttosport has emerged regarding the Italy international – and Everton may finally have a chance to secure his signature as Juventus prepare to sell the defender.
Do Everton still need to add a new centre-back this summer? 🤔
Juventus ready to sell long-term Everton target Federico Gatti
The Italian news outlet now state that Juventus need cash, and have chosen the 27-year-old as a player they are willing to sell this summer for a fee in the region of €25m (£22m).
Gatti is said to have already turned down Galatasaray – who own another Everton target in Gabriel Sara – and could be heading to England as Tuttosport say the Toffees have been monitoring him closely for months.
However, there is also interest from Crystal Palace, Fulham and Aston Villa, so Everton will have to be quick if they are to sign the man born in Rivoli.
Gatti himself is said to be ready to leave Juventus, having only made 11 starts in Serie A this season.
This story from Tuttosport adds further evidence to our belief that James Tarkowski will either be sold by Everton this summer, or demoted from being a regular in the starting XI.
The England international made a woeful mistake in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City, completely shutting off as Erling Haaland easily ran beyond him to score, much to the disbelief of James Garner.
Tarkowski showed a similar lack of awareness in the recent 2-2 draw against Brentford, allowing Kevin Schade to run past him and win a penalty with little knowledge that the German was even there.
Everton have already handed Michael Keane a new contract – while Moyes plans to move Jake O’Brien into the centre of defence from next season.
With all centre-backs fit, should David Moyes consider dropping James Tarkowski for Everton? 🤔
Michael Ball reckons there's an opportunity to make a change 👀
With Jarrad Branthwaite also an undisputed starter when fit, these consistent links to another central defender – John Stones and Marco Senesi have also been mentioned as targets – strongly suggest Everton are looking to move on from Tarkowski, in our view at least.
