Everton’s season may have only just really begun, but already there are so many things that need sorting out by the decision-makers.

The only problem is that, whilst this Dan Friedkin takeover remains ongoing, who exactly gets to make those choices remains uncertain.

After all, interim CEO Colin Chong will not want to leave a larger mess than is needed by tying down players or staff to long, lucrative contracts, and he will also want to hand over a team that is still playing Premier League football.

The latter is something that only Everton manager Sean Dyche can control, but the former is one which is sparking some debate around Goodison Park.

Everton update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin contract situation

It’s TEAMtalk that provides the latest update on the future of one star Everton man, with many still very much up in the air at present.

After all, this coming summer promises to be one of mass revolution, but all change is not necessarily good change.

Especially given that some running down their current deals might not be players who they actually want gone, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin surely chief among them.

Fortunately, this report has some good news for fans, as it reads: ‘Talks with the striker are ongoing and he maintains a positive relationship with the Toffees. He is not actively looking to leave the club and has been offered a lucrative new deal.

‘Calvert-Lewin remains a key player for Sean Dyche’s side and has scored two goals so far this season. Losing him would be a major blow, hence why the Toffees are so keen to tie him down to fresh terms.’

Champions League side Juventus have shown an interest in signing Calvert-Lewin in January.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is too good to leave for nothing

Regardless of his patchy goalscoring form, or how his fitness record has drawn scrutiny across the last four years, to let a player as valuable as Calvert-Lewin leave for free would be criminal from Everton.

They have let so many stars run down their contracts, mainly due to an inability to find a new home to accommodate ridiculously high wages.

With this English striker, that’s surely not the case, as a more than capable Premier League striker who has proven his quality at the top level when afforded service.

His most fruitful period in royal blue came under Carlo Ancelotti, when he scored 16 in the league during the Italian’s one and only full campaign in charge.

During that spell, the legendary head coach claimed: ‘He is a complete striker. It is not easy to find a striker with these characteristics.

‘He has a lot of energy, is really fast. I am really pleased he is doing well and scoring goals because at the end a striker is judged on the goals he scores.’

It’s a testament to his quality that Calvert-Lewin was handed a £50m price tag back in 2022 should anyone have wanted him then.

For this reason, among many others, they cannot now allow him to leave for free.
