‘Could be weeks’: Injury expert claims £2m Everton player may now miss the Merseyside derby

Idrissa Gana Gueye could now be sidelined for next week’s trip to Liverpool.

That’s according to injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar, who has claimed the Everton midfielder could be out of action for weeks.

Gueye – who cost the club around £2m – has been an ever present figure in Everton’s team this season, starting all seven of their games in the Premier League prior to his injury.

The 34-year-old was named in the starting line-up for the weekend’s clash with Bournemouth but was forced to pull out after picking up an injury in the warm-up, resulting in Amadou Onana replacing him.

It was later confirmed that Gueye had some heel pain, though he wasn’t expected to be out for very long. However, Brar has now claimed that he could be sidelined for weeks in the ‘worst case’.

Speaking to Goodison News, Brar said: “He had soreness in the heel leading up to the match and that soreness continued into the warm-ups.

“That could mean a number of things, ranging from plantar fasciitis to Achilles soreness.

“The worst case here would be something like Achilles tendinopathy which can have a high variance for return, depending on the specifics, but could be weeks.“

Everton will be fine without Gueye

If Idrissa Gueye‘s injury is as bad as feared then he will have to sit out of the Merseyside derby next weekend.

With a midfield trio of Onana, James Garner and Abdoulaye Doucoure actually putting on a really strong display against the Cherries, I don’t think Everton fans will have much to worry about in Gueye’s absence.

There has been plenty of calls for the Senegal international to be dropped anyway and this could be Garner’s chance to really make the central midfield position his own, having been forced out wide for much of the season.

Of course, we all wish Gueye a speedy recovery. However, it is likely to be very hard for him to work his way back into the starting line-up once he returns.
