Dan Friedkin could appoint former Everton player as Sean Dyche’s replacement once his takeover goes through

Everton, if they are to get rid of Sean Dyche soon, will ideally want a short-term appointment.

After all, the most important thing for the club, and Dan Friedkin, is to ensure that they start next season in the Premier League.

Having acquired just one point from their opening five matches though, fears over this possibility are well-founded.

And with that in mind, it seems that Friedkin is already looking ahead to someone who could offer both the short and long-term benefits to not only help save the club, but progress it too.

The latest on Everton’s managerial pursuit comes courtesy of GIVEMESPORT, who have today identified a brand-new candidate who the Toffees have earmarked.

And whilst some are suggesting that David Moyes could return to Goodison Park, or Graham Potter might usher in a new era of passing football, it’s instead Lee Carsley who would tick both of these boxes for Friedkin.

The report reads: Everton could look to offer Lee Carsley a romantic return to Goodison Park as the England interim manager is poised to be shortlisted as a candidate to head into the dugout if incoming owner Dan Friedkin opts to sack Sean Dyche during the early stages of his reign, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

‘Carsley is poised to be among the candidates to succeed Dyche if Friedkin chooses to wield the axe after his Everton takeover is officially ratified in the coming weeks, according to GMS sources, which would allow the England interim chief to return to familiar surroundings if he embarks on a fresh challenge.

‘GMS sources have been informed that the new-look Everton hierarchy would look to make an appointment that gets the fans fully on board with the direction they want to travel in if they choose to sack Dyche, resulting Carsley being identified as one of the names who would fit the bill thanks to his existing relationship with the supporters.’

What would Lee Carsley offer Everton?

As someone who spent the bulk of his playing days with Everton, already there is a link there to be exploited.

It’s just a happy coincidence that he has developed into one of the most sought-after managers within English football, having worked his way up through the football leagues to the position he currently holds.

However, inarguably his greatest triumph thus far has come with the England U21s, where he led his side to the European Championships title in 2023.

That summer, he utilised Jarrad Branthwaite and James Garner to great effect, forging a team that went through the entire tournament without conceding a goal whilst playing remarkable possession-based football.

Should he fail to get the England senior job, a move back to Goodison Park makes perfect sense for the 50-year-old where he could really establish himself as a top-level manager.
