Everton are winless in three after drawing against struggling West Ham United on Monday night.

David Moyes’ side have won two from their first six Premier League games, leaving them ninth in the table.

So, it hasn’t been the most productive start, and there are clearly plenty of areas that need to be improved if Everton are to return to Europe this season.

With that said, Darren Bent reckons one player is being used in the completely wrong position, which isn’t helping.

Darren Bent says Jake O’Brien is being played in the wrong position

Speaking on talkSPORT, Darren Bent explained that Jake O’Brien, who is a centre-back by trade, looks out of place at right-back, and it’s an area of concern.

“They haven’t got much strength in depth defensively but offensively they’re going to score goals and they’re going to get points. So I don’t think they’ll be anywhere near a relegation scrap,” Danny Murphy said.

“I agree with you,” Darren Bent replied. “Certainly defensively like Jake O’Brien, he’s done well at fullback, but he’s not a fullback. You can tell that he’s not a fullback.”

O’Brien struggled at times against Crysencio Summerville, who won the Man of the Match award, and he wasn’t really a threat going forward.

Everton expected to target a right-back this January

Everton did try to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window, with Kenny Tete almost joining on a free transfer.

But ultimately, Tete decided to renew his contract with Fulham, and then the Toffees turned their attention to Hector Fort.

That deal never materialised, so Moyes and his chiefs are expected to go back in for a full-back in the January transfer window.

That would allow O’Brien to move back into his favoured position at centre-back, giving Moyes another option in a position he’s quite short in.
