Everton fans have been very disgruntled over the past 24 hours or so after the club were ordered to pay compensation to Burnley – and now David Moyes has reacted.

Wednesday was a huge day for the club, after a Premier League independent disciplinary commission ordered the Toffees to pay Burnley £35 million in relation to the club’s PSR breach in 2022.

Everton have expressed their shock and anger, and have vowed to appeal the decision.

How are we being punished again by the Premier League? 😡

That appeal will be heard by a panel different to the one that handed Everton the initial points deduction, and gave this compensation order.

It is a development that could have ramifications for other Premier League clubs, who will now be hoping that Everton’s appeal will be successful.

But what does the manager think? David Moyes was sharing his thoughts today on talkSPORT.

There is real anger for Everton fans over this, and understandably so.

The Toffees are still being punished for that PSR breach, with many asking where the verdict is on Manchester City’s 115 charges and why Chelsea were recently let off lightly over their secret payments to unregistered agents and third-parties.

Today, Moyes has shared his thoughts on the situation, as he appeared on talkSPORT.

Asked if he felt he and The Friedkin Group were paying for the ‘sins’ of the previous regime, he said: “First of all I’m not up to all the situation exactly how it is. Obviously the club are challenging it at the moment as well, which is really important.

“It’s really disappointing. I heard Simon (Jordan) quickly saying there… I don’t know if this opens a huge can of worms with other events as well. Teams who have maybe not got promoted or example, because of Premier League teams having problems with PSR.

“I felt that we’d paid our dues, and that we had done it already. For this to come back to us, it feels like it’s an individual case. I don’t know whether it’s going to open up more things for other clubs to do something similar.”

Simon Jordan then asked Moyes if he felt he was £35 million worse off in terms of transfer spend this summer.

Moyes replied: “They told me not Simon. They told it wouldn’t have any effect on it. Look, I was aware of this maybe four or five weeks ago when it was happening. That this would be the case. But I’m hoping that it doesn’t. Last season as you rightly say, we had a good season except the last month or so when we sort of blew up when we were in a strong position.

“The Premier League is so difficult. If you don’t do well, you can find yourself in trouble again. We don’t want to be back in those situations that we were in the past.

“My understanding is that The Friedkins were aware of this when they were buying the club and there was a possibility this could happen. I really hope that, no, it has no affect on what we’re going to do in the summer.”

Everton need a transfer budget of at least _________ this summer

Everton News had previously learned that the transfer budget was unlikely to be affected by the ruling.

The Friedkin Group are said to be fully supportive of the appeal Everton are lodging and hopefully it will be the outcome we want.

But at least for the time being, the noise is that Everton will be able to operate as normal in terms of transfers.
