Wednesday brought a lot of frustration as Everton were ordered to pay Burnley £40m in compensation.

The hearing, which had started months ago, has finally drawn a verdict and it was not the one Everton were hoping for.

The Friedkin Group have cleared Everton of their debt following the takeover in late 2024, but this compensation hearing has now provided a significant blow for those on Merseyside.

The Friedkins remain supportive of Everton’s appeal against Burnley ruling

Everton News understands that Everton’s transfer budget will not be impacted on the back of Wednesday’s announcement.

However, the club remain furious over the verdict and are appealing the decision.

Speaking for A View From The Bullens, Everton insider The Bobble has shared just how the club’s owners have reacted to the news.

“Everton have already begun the appeal process and continue to robustly contest the decision. The club remains confident in its position despite the setback,” he said.

“It is also understood that any compensation owed would be mitigated against existing financial obligations with the Premier League.

“The Friedkin Group (TFG), now backing Everton, are fully supportive of the club’s stance.”

Dan Friedkin is yet to pay a visit to Everton since making his multi-million takeover on Merseyside.

The Everton owner has kept a relatively low profile since securing the keys to the club, but this verdict has prompted a clear response from the Friedkins.

Regardless of whether the payment to Burnley will affect the summer budget or not, it is still a considerable amount of money needing to be forked out by Everton.

Everton left their financial woes behind them back in 2024 when Farhad Moshiri left the club, but the Premier League appears to be intent on sanctioning further blows against the Toffees.
